WeDoInvites.com ….nearly :)

November 11th, 2009

wedoinvites_logo

This is my new logo and identity for WeDoInvites – a new venture that I’ve been planning to get started for a while. I’ve got a lot of work to do so in the meantime I’d be interested to hear if you had any experiences you wanted to share good or bad in buying invitations…

eg:
Did you easily find what you were looking for?
Were they good quality for the price you paid?
Could you buy them separately or were they in packs?
Where they reasonably priced?
Where did you buy them from?

….email your thoughts to info@WeDoInvites.com and I will reward you well when the site goes live in the new year :)

The Cloud Mixer Animation

October 13th, 2009

My latest flash animation : )

Prints of the orignal vector illustration are on sale now at Bristol Tobacco Factory…they will also be in my online shop in November as limited edition prints.

The Green exhibition is open!

October 2nd, 2009

My new ThemLot group exhibition opened in Bristol Tobacco Factory on Monday 5th and is open until 5th of November. The show is on the theme of GREEN and along with some the usual coloured suspects (crocodiles, caterpillars, a green Michael Jackson etc) I’ve been playing with the idea of mixing colours to make green. I can’t wait to see what the others have been up to so – when it’s all up and dazzling I’ll get my camera out and get the pics posted.

This is the centre piece to my collection in the show – a vector illustration called The Cloud Mixer and is a big AO print hot off the press today.

And my Catepillar painting which sits opposite a Toasty dog:

All work will be for sale and if you miss out I’ll be putting limited edition prints in my shop.

Palm Trees and Coconuts

August 17th, 2009

I recently returned from an amazing holiday in Croatia to this lovely drawing by Rowan from Bristol. Rowan had entered my Dot2Dot draw a couple of months ago and  won a print of my Snow Leopard painting and asked for a picture so she could draw my portrait.

She surrounded me with palm trees and coconuts on a sunny beach because she thought I’d be happy there  - and how right she was! A great way to beat the holiday blues. Thanks Rowan : )

DV8 review of Jofolio Exhibition

August 12th, 2009

Bristol’s DV8 Magazine reviewed my Jofolio exhibition and published it this month, better late than never! It’s a great little piece and Emily who came to the show loved one of my pieces so much that she bought a print, the original had sold (woop!).

I was going to add an extract but I think you should read it in all of it’s glory and check out the rest of the site for all of your Bristol needs :)

The Pillow Monster – animation

August 8th, 2009

I found this animation while clearing out my old mac, me and my friend Jade made this about 4 years ago with a massive hangover, a couple of pillows, a very special toy and some paper.

Total Science, Bristol, 21 August

August 4th, 2009

Shoot the Freak are busy preparing for their next night in Bristol and have revealed their new flyers featuring my illustrations:

STF flyer_front

I toned down the freak style this time as Total Science are real people who appear to be lacking in the freakish qualities I enjoy drawing.

If these are not enough for you and fancy seeing the Oxford duo in the flesh, get yourself to The Croft in Bristol on Friday, 21 August.

Latest Portrait Commission

July 13th, 2009

Just a quick one showing my latest Portrait Commission. I was forced to overcome my detail demons and got stuck into some embroidery, folding fabrics, veils, tiara’s, pin stripes and if all that wasn’t enough hands…2 of them! Despite all the obstacles I really enjoyed painting this piece and it could bookmark the end of extreme close-ups, people are more than just pretty faces after all : )

Jo Conlon Portrait Commission
The feedback:

“Just wanted to say thanks once again for doing such a great job, We are both absolutely delighted with the painting, and the more we look at it the more we love it! I can’t believe you did such a great painting so quickly!!! I totally recommend you to anyone looking to commission you or buy anything from you…they won’t be disappointed!”

Jofolio Success!

March 2nd, 2009

After what seems to have been the fastest month ever, I took the Jofolio exhibition down from the Tobacco Factory walls this morning. I’d like to thank everyone for their support especially those who made it to the preview night despite the severe weather warnings plus big shout out to Kevin J Conlon for making endless frames!

I sold out in the main bar and have had many print requests plus a portrait commission to put the icing on the cake.

Here are a few photo’s of the exhibition and preview night and watch this space as I may be back with Them Lot in the summer…

Grime Time MC workshop

February 20th, 2009

Kev Howlett is at it again with his free music worshops for local (Gloucestershire) school kids. After having fantastic success with his ‘Bandit’ rock workshops over the last few years Kev has decided it is time for the MC’s out there to hit the stage.

The kids will get the opportunity to learn how to rhyme, write lyrics, record, scratch and create lighting and visuals with the help of local talent and will perform the results live on stage on day 3.

Kev asked me to produce the posters/flyers for Grime Time and here is the finished piece:

Join the celebs on canvas

February 4th, 2009

Bristol’s answer to Creative Review featured a great bit of promo for my ‘Jofolio’ exhibition. The article was in Bristol Evening Post’s ‘Crackerjack’ on Jan 29th 2009 and sat snuggly next to Elton John’s big face and his ticket competition.

Them Lot Exhibition – Urban Outfitters: Bristol

September 25th, 2008

We (Them Lot) were invited by Urban Outfitters to put on an exhibition to celebrate their new store which opens in Bristol today. The show is called BLACK + WHITE and features black and white prints from the group.

I went along last night to hang the show (with a lot of help from my bro – thanks for the lift!) and took a few snaps on my dodgy camera phone, I’ll post better photographs when I go back on Sunday…

Nearly there and on the radio!

September 24th, 2008

Welcome to the world of JoConlon.com!

The site needs a little more love and the shop needs to be loaded but it’s nearly there thanks to Felix’s good work.

Lovely Faye Hatcher from BBC Radio Glos came out to sunny Stonehouse yesterday for a little  interview on my work and the art scene in the Stroud area, I’m sure I sounded highly intelligent and articulate so listen out for it next week…

Grafik Magazine at New Designers

July 9th, 2008

I was invited via YCN to go along and do some live drawing for Grafik’s stand at this years New Designers event. There were a handful of illustrators who took part to draw willing visitors on a postcard which was then sent on to them after the event.

Grafik will be publishing some of the drawings in their next issue which will be focusing on illustration…

Confessions: Them Lot Exhibition in Bristol

April 4th, 2008

Them Lot’s exhibition in Birmingham’s Custard Factory in March was so successful that we have been invited by Here Shop and Gallery to bring the the show to Bristol. The Gallery is small but very cosy, no wall will be left untouched. The show is up until the 28th April.

Below is a small, poor quality copy of the review that was published in Metro Newspaper on April 10th 2008. My painting of ‘I used to be a woman’ was used to illustrate the piece and if you squint you may be able to read it!
